The Qamani’tuaq water quality project is in development, with a group of local youth in training. The project is lead by the Baker Lake HTO. The community of Qamani’tuaq is the only Nunavut community located inland at approx. 300km from the coast, and the Baker Lake itself is the main water supply. Because the Baker Lake is a receptacle of 7 immense watersheds, it is very sensitive to any change in hydrological and microbial conditions at a very large scale. Accordingly, there is growing concerns with regards to the quality of water under the dire of climate changes, but also according to industrial development, and pollution from daily community activities.
