Youth from the Environmental Monitoring Program, Arviat Wellness Centre, lead this project since 2014. The community of Arviat is the southernmost continental Nunavut community and experience first-hand the consequences of global warming, one of such being an increase in the length of the Arctic summer. The Arviat Greenhouse project ingeniously turns Climate Change into a local advantage for food production in the community. The Greenhouse project uses local soils and fertilizers to grow vegetables; potatoes, carrots, radishes, beets, and salad. Local experiments contrasting soil types and fertilizers are run over the summer to improve the yield. The annual crop, high in quality and nutrient value, is distributed in the community promoting healthy food habits.
